First Responders - Volunteers needed.

After a long delay caused by Covid and its ongoing impact, our local Community First Responders group is, at last, able to recruit.

First Responders are unpaid volunteers who are trained, and equipped, to work with the Scottish Ambulance Service and attend 999 incidents in our area. Local First Responders are usually on the scene in advance of the ambulance, and this can make all the difference in potentially life threatening situations.

If you would be interested in becoming a First Responder, and are willing to commit some of your time to being on call, please contact Carolyn Wilson on 07582 185124 or cow.men@btinternet.com to chat through what is involved. Initial training and assessment to be passed out as a First Responder is run by the Ambulance Service, and it is hoped that this will be taking place before the end of this year, so don’t delay if you would like to be involved!

A Community First Responder may attend the following types of emergency:

1. Cardiac arrest

2. Heart attack

3. Stroke

4. Choking

5. Diabetic emergencies

6. Breathing difficulties

7. Patients suffering a seizure

8. Chest pains

9. Unconscious patients
