On Thursday 21st July GURCA and the Loch Ness Hub Team welcomed MSP Tom Arthur: Minister for Public Finance, Planning, and Community Wealth.
The visit marked the launch of the Review of the Community Empowerment Act. The Minister saw the progress GURCA had made transforming the Hub into a hive of community activity following a successful asset transfer from Highland Council - the first of its kind in the region. The community had come together in 2020 to raise funds through a successful community share offer and the Hub is now in its 2nd full year of operation.
The Minister then visited Glen Urquhart Public Hall which is undergoing refurbishment, with work on a new slate roof and windows completed earlier this month. The visit provided all present with an opportunity to reflect on successes and achievements but also to discuss the challenges faced by communities and community groups. The Hall refurbishment is still a large and complex project and much work is needed to secure funds for the next stage of its refurbishment.
